***** OPERATIONAL UPDATE COVID-19 VIRUS *****

Effective Tuesday, May 12, 2020

The Stark County Humane Society’s office hours will be Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 9:00 am to 5:00pm. Office hours for Saturdays will be 9:00am to 4:00pm. Closed on Wednesdays and Sundays until further notice. Starting Tuesday, May 12, 2020 we will ask that you call the Shelter office at (330) 453-5529 at 9:00 am to reserve a kennel space if one is available to best suit the animal in need. We will continue to accept in owner surrenders, sick and injured stray companion animals, stray nursing mothers with litters, and orphaned puppies and kittens. This will be as kennel space permits.

We will open the Shelter for adoptions as well. The Shelter will permit ten (10) visitors in at a time. All visitors will be required to have a face mask or covering on. The Shelter will also ask that the 6’ distancing be in place as much as possible. Shelter hours for adoptions will be Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday’s 11:00am to 5:00pm. Adoption hours for Saturday’s will be from 11:00am to 4:00pm. We will remain closed to the public on Wednesday’s until further notice. If you arrive at the Shelter and the current occupancy level is at capacity, we will ask that you wait outside or in your vehicle for safety purposes.

During this time, we have and will continue to accept and investigate calls of cruelty and or neglect in our community. We will also be returning to Petsmart for the Love a Pet adoption center(s). Please call the Shelter for store hours and locations.

We appreciate your patience and understanding during these trying times. We look forward to seeing volunteers and community service back in the near future.

Our Mission

We "speak for those who cannot speak for themselves" and with the support of our members, employees and volunteers, we hope to do so for many years to come.

The Stark County Humane Society is a private, charitable organization.  We are not a county agency and we do not receive funding from the United Way.  Our continued existence and success depends upon the support of the community through membership fees, gifts, and contributions.

Our shelter is open to the public every day except holidays.  During 2017 approximately 27,421 individuals visited the shelter.  Our educational and pet therapy programs continue to thrive throughout our community.  Our service for the sick and injured stray dogs and cats remains available 24 hours a day and 365 days a year.  One of our top priorities remains our investigation of cruelty to animals in our county.
