Pet Adoption
Adopting shelter animals to good, loving homes remains a priority and we work to enhance the adoption opportunities for the animals:
The shelter is open to the public for adoption six (6) days a week, including Saturdays and Sundays.
- Our satellite adoption centers throughout the community provide valuable adoption outreach opportunities and additional exposure to the public. Our adoption center at Petsmart is open seven days a week. On weekends, we also operate our adoption outreach programs at Pets Supplies Plus in Canton and at the store in North Canton/Jackson Township. We now operate an adoption outreach center at the new Petco store seven days a week and in early 2006, will also be operating an adoption outreach center at the new PetsMart store in Massillon.
- Our web site continues to be a popular site on which shelter cats and dogs are featured regularly.
- Several local businesses continue to permit us to display photographs of shelter animals that are available for adoption.
- Public service announcements (aired on Massillon Cable TV and other stations, where possible) feature shelter animals that are available for adoption.
The members of the Stark County Veterinary Academy have continued to assist in our efforts. For individuals who adopt a shelter animal, participating veterinarians provide a free initial exam for the animal. In addition, a discount coupon for spay-neuter services is also provided by us to individuals who have adopted a shelter animal.
Many of the local veterinarians also volunteer to visit the shelter on a rotating basis to treat the sick/injured animals in our care in our "Vet of the Day" program, which supplements the work of our staff veterinarian.
