FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

President’s Report

I have a variety of items to discuss, but first, I want to thank those of you who have donated to the summer fund drive. To date, we have raised close to $35,000.00 and I am hopeful we will reach our goal of $41,000.00 by the end of 2007.

We certainly were blessed with perfect weather for our 10th Annual Mutt Strut. There were over 200 dogs walking and together with their owners raised well over $3,000.00 for the shelter. Thanks to all who came out and supported this fun day, and remember to mark your calendars for next year’s event which will be October 5, 2008.

You may or may not be aware of the fact that the Humane Society is totally funded by donations. We do not receive any local or government funding.   For that reason, we just want to remind our members there are many ways to support us. If you have considered remembering the shelter in your Will, the proper name is The Stark County Humane Society Inc... Also some donors are now helping us through their financial planners with charitable gift annuities, life insurance policy gifts, and donations from IRAs. These unique ways of giving can insure that we will always be able to care for the unwanted animals in our care.

Pet photos with Santa will be coming up before you know it. We have confirmed dates for PetSmart, Belden Village for Dec. 1st and 2nd. Please keep checking our web site for more dates at our other satellite locations.

Lastly, many of you have inquired as to why we don’t put more photos of our adoptable animals on our website.  Every week we place six cats and six dogs on our web site. These pictures are changed faithfully and they have remained longer only when we experience technical problems. Sometimes the pets that we are photographing are not the most willing subjects and it is very difficult to get an inviting picture. Getting the best pictures will sometimes take a couple of hours and takes at least three employees. The bottom line is we really want you to see in person how beautiful these pets are. Pictures will never be able to show their true personalities.

We have seen potential adopters specifically request a certain type of pet, only to leave with something not even close to what they had been looking for.  Many times, it is the connection you make with an animal when you visit the shelter that is the deciding factor for adopting that animal and not by simply seeing a photograph.

We know for a fact by the data we receive monthly, that many people visit our website to view the animals on the up for adoption page.  While that is a mere sampling of what is available, we ultimately want you to visit the shelter in person.

Have a great fall and enjoy all the beautiful foliage.

Board President
