President’s Report

Hello and welcome to spring: I hope I’m not being overly optimistic in saying, we have survived the winter of 2010! I know March as been known to bring a lot of bad weather, but let’s hope we won’t see any more of the severe kind.

I really have to thank Renaissance Landscaping for the great job they have done in keeping our drive and parking lot cleared during this brutal winter. I also want to thank a very dedicated volunteer, Carey Nader, who diligently came out in the most severe weather conditions to walk our housebroken animals. They both, in their own way, made life so much better for the staff and our pets. THANK YOU.

The economy is still posing problems for many in our area and we are continuing to assist them with their animal problems as best as we can. We finished the year on a positive note in keeping our adoptions modestly ahead of 2008. Thanks to all of you, we were able to reach our fund drive goal. Our Reverse Raffle on February 12th, was also a success.

The internet has become a valuable tool in spreading our message and showcasing animals that we have up for adoption. Please visit adoptapet.com, petfinders.com, and of course, our website starkhumane.org to get the latest shelter news and view the featured cats/dogs that are available for adoption. Our pet adoption commercials have always been well received, thanks to the wonderful support of Massillon Cable and their own channel 10. Our up for adoption boards are another means of showing off the animals for adoption thanks to Bordner’s Foods, Food For Less, Giant Eagle Stores, Arabica Coffee House, and Animal Care Clinic. Whenever other suitable mediums become available, we will certainly attempt to incorporate them as well.
