February Patient Highlight: Little Man

February Patient Highlight: Little Man

Meet Little Man!  This month, we would like to highlight a very special patient - Little Man, the smallest of a litter of seven puppies!  These cute little puppies were brought into the Shelter through our Community Foster Program.

Upon intake, the Foster reported that the dam had stopped nursing and the litter had been bottle-fed prior to arrival.  While his siblings were thriving, Little Man was not.  He was half the size of the other litter mates and only weighed two (2) pounds.  When he arrived at SCHS, the Vet Med team Little Man appeared very cold, lethargic, and minimally responsive.

Little Man, was immediately towel-dried and placed on a heating pad, covered with a blanket to begin gradual warming.  After approximately 20 minutes, Nutri-Cal was administered to provide a quick source of energy.  Following about an hour of continued warming, he was offered a wet food mix with puppy milk replacer - he at without hesitation.

This tiny puppy who was on the brink of hypothermia has since remained in the SCHS Vet Med Department for close monitoring.  He is receiving individual care with all the love and medical support to ensure he is growing!

What could have been a heartbreaking outcome has become a heartwarming journey for Little Man!  He continues to be bright, getting stronger, and steadily gaining weight!  Watch for updates!

Thank you for your continued support of SCHS and our furry friends!
