FURever Home

Success Stories

Our goal is to find a FURever home for every animal that comes in contact with the Stark County Humane Society. Here are some animals we’ve helped find a special place to call home through animal shelter adoption.

Jazzy's Story

In January 2023, Jazzy—a sweet 6-year-old terrier mix—was brought to the Stark County Humane Society after being abandoned in a house following an eviction. She arrived with severe skin issues and was missing most of her fur. Despite her condition, Jazzy’s gentle spirit never wavered.

The veterinary team poured their hearts into her recovery, dedicating months to medication, medicated baths, and trying various diets. Finally, in November 2023, Jazzy’s skin had healed enough for her to move to the animal shelter adoption floor! She quickly became a shelter favorite, stealing the hearts of staff, volunteers, and anyone who met her.

Jazzy was adopted a couple of times, but through no fault of her own, those placements didn’t last. Still, Jazzy never lost her spark or her loving nature. Then in August 2024, everything changed. One of the shelter's vet assistants decided to foster Jazzy—hoping it might become permanent. It was a perfect match. Jazzy settled in right away, as if she had always been part of the family. She made fast friends with the household dogs and even won over the cats!

Now, Jazzy spends her days lounging on a cozy couch and playing with her best friend, Luna. After more than a year of ups and downs, Jazzy has finally found her forever home.

Darla's Story

Darla, a five-year-old bulldog mix, arrived at the Stark County Humane Society as part of a cruelty investigation. Previously used for breeding on a compound, she appeared to have spent most of her life confined to a cage. Malnourished, dehydrated, and extremely fearful, Darla was in urgent need of care and compassion.

After receiving the necessary medical attention and time to recover, Darla became available for animal shelter adoption. One of the shelter’s dedicated employees, who had formed a special bond with her, decided to foster Darla to see how she might integrate into their home and existing group of rescue dogs.

By the end of the very first day, it was clear that Darla had found her forever family. She now enjoys a safe, loving environment with her human companions and her adopted canine siblings—three of whom are also former Humane Society residents rescued from cruelty cases.

Today, Darla is truly thriving. Her favorite pastimes include eating, napping, and taking stroller walks with her best friend, Marla. Her story is a powerful reminder of the resilience of animals and the life-changing impact of compassion and second chances. The help from Subaru and the annual Subaru Share the Love Event, the Stark County Humane Society can continue to “Speak for those that cannot speak for themselves”.

Mr. Speckles' Story

Mr. Speckles was officially adopted from us on August 23, 2025 — and his story is one we’re so proud to share.

He originally arrived at the Stark County Humane Society on January 13, 2024, as part of a small case with multiple other animals. He came in with wounds on his face and a lot of uncertainty in his eyes. At first, he was very nervous and unsure of the world around him. He didn’t know how to walk on a leash, how to trust, or even how to simply be a dog.

With patience, gentle handling, and time, Mr. Speckles slowly began to open up. He learned what kindness felt like, started to gain confidence, and showed us that beneath that timid exterior was the biggest teddy bear just waiting to shine.

Now, he’s found the perfect family through animal shelter adoption — and he has absolutely fallen in love with them. In his new home, Mr. Speckles is truly blossoming. He’s happy, comfortable, and finally living the life he always deserved.

Welcome home, Mr. Speckles!
